The draws took place on Thursday at each of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first round ties, as the captains announced their team line-ups for the weekend's action.

The experienced Juan Carlos Ferrero, making his first Davis Cup appearance for two years, gets Spain's title defence under way against Kazakhstan in Oviedo. The former world No. 1, who turns 32 on Sunday, is taking on Mikhail Kukushkin in the opening rubber, before Nicolas Almagro plays Andrey Golubev.

Last year's beaten finalists, Argentina, begin their campaign with a trip to Bamberg to face Germany. In the absence of Juan Martin del Potro, the responsibility falls on Juan Monaco to open the tie against Philipp Petzschner, then David Nalbandian meets Florian Mayer.

The feature tie of the round sees Switzerland host USA in Fribourg. Stanislas Wawrinka and Mardy Fish gets proceedings under way, with Roger Federer and John Isner following them on court for the second rubber.

Elsewhere, world No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic opens Serbia's account against Sweden's Filip Prpic in Nis, and Radek Stepanek is action first for Czech Republic when he takes on Italy's Andreas Seppi in Ostrava.
